You know you are Bulgarian when...

As you already know I am from Bulgaria. But what You probably dont know is some of the wierd things that go on there. Here is a highly amusing list of things, I found on facebook, but as there is 198, I have selected the top 21 . To share with you here (the best one is in capital letters at the end):

1.You have at least one relative called Ivan or Maria.  I have a few
2.No one has ever pronounced your name/surname right, and every kid on the block has a different idea for it.
3.When your gran would rather walk 5 miles to the grocery store instead of pay 10p to take the bus.
4.When you think chalga is good music. Unfortunatly it's the opposite of good.
5.You know you're Bulgarian when all you have to do is sniffle and your parents say "uh-huh" and start yelling at you for getting sick.
6.Your surname ends in either "-ov" or "-ev" or "-va"
You get annoyed when someone asks you why that is so. It just is.
7.You don't buy fruit and vegetables because you grandparents produce them, even though they live a 100 km away from you. Yep.
8.Nobody understands when you nod.
9.You are expected to name your kids after your Parents
10.In your local supermarket there are no pickles or tinned fruit because everyone makes their own.
11.Your neighbourhood looks like a Native American reservation when people start making "zimnina."
12.Instead of a middle name, you have another surname.
13.You like roasted sunflower seeds. Yum
14.You think something is stupid when you don't understand it. Don't we all ;)
15.You eat bread with everything, even with pasta.
16.You know how to make "rakia" at home.
17.Your grandma cooks for 10 people, although there are only 4 people in the house.
She gets worried if you don't get a second helping.
18.The TV channels at home show at least 3 Turkish soap operas per day. My grandma watches all of them.
19.You speak broken Bulgarian after 1 month of being in away and when you can’t remember Bulgarian words, you replace them with English words. Lol, thats me :D
20.When going back to Bulgaria, one suitcase contains your clothes, and the other presents for people there. My mum exactly
21.Going to bed with damp hair, or walking around with no socks and/or slippers on, is a crime punishable by death. And by death I mean "shte te naperdasha!!"  (You'll get a good spanking) ;) Even in the summer :o

YOU KNOW YOU'RE BULGARIAN WHEN YOU HAVE RUN AWAY FROM BULGARIA AND STILL SAY IT'S THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE......

Throwing out old TV's

Forget Cash in the Attic were they auction people old things for cash, here in Bulgaria we like selling them to the gypsies who then smash them up and sell it for scrap metal. Its weird, in the the UK people pay for people to get rid of your stuff (skip/truck) here the gypsies pay for 6 or 7 retro TVs ,15 Lev and then smash them up and sell them for 50 Lev. So yesterday on my Grans villa/farm we managed to find loads of old washing machines and TVs. May they R.I.P's (Rest in Pieces)
The funniest thing was that they couldn't fit them all in their shabby car so one guy was driving and the other guy was holding them onto the front. As they went down the hill I was waiting for a You've been Framed moment, but unfortunately there wasn't one.

Bulgaria (at last)

This is going to be quite a long post, so if you cant be bothered to read it all I'll summarise it all for you now; Pasta,Pizza and Parma ham, - San Marino - The (mini) cruise- Arrival in Bulgaria. But before all of that you may have noticed that yesterday (29/7/10) there was a post about Beccas and Denicas Birthday. Well, instead of managing to embarrass Becca I embarrassed myself :) As her birthday is in a month (29/8/10) because I got the dates mixed up. Oooops. So anyways if you are still reading....

Pasta, Pizza and Parma ham.
Arriving in Italy we had driven for a few days we slept in Parma. So far in Italy I had eaten pizza and pasta so the only thing left to try was the famous Parma ham and where better to eat it than Parma. We wondered around the city and visited a few churches and museums. Then we visited a local restaurant. The food was delicious , as the parma ham was served with melon. My sister at the melon whilst I ate the parma ham. We then went to the main square where they had sort of like a children's disco outside at 10pm.

San Marino
The next day we traveled to San Marino. Its basically a big rock with towers on it. It has half the population of the Isle of Man and you walk around it easily it is so small. We had to walk uphill for miles to reach the towers. We climbed 2 as the 3rd one was closed. We visited the museum of Torture which gave me lots of ideas ;)

<---- view from the second tower

Mini Cruise ship

The next day from San Marino we drove down to Ancona beach (Italy). We spent a hour on the beach and in the warm water and the we had to go on the boat. But first we had to fill up with petrol because the Greek petrol people (idk what there called) had gone on strike and there was no petrol in the whole of Greece. So we went to find the petrol station. Once we got there it was impossible to fill up the machine was so complicated and in Italian and it wouldn't accept any of our cards, we tried to ask people but there was no-one around. After wasting 20 mins at the petrol station we were about to leave when some other people turned up and luckily they knew English as well as Italian they told us that the card was not being accepted eventually we managed to fill up with cash. Then we had to go and check in which took ages. Eventually we got on the boat and the pool was closed :( Brilliant

Arriving in Bulgaria

Even tough we spent 30 mins going the wrong way we passed through Greece faster than we expected as the motorways were empty as none of the Greeks had any petrol. We then boiled n the car in Bulgaria even though it was 6 o'clock it was still boiling. We arrived eventually and I rushed straight to the computer to write this. Just for you ;)

Summer

It finally summer, 6 weeks without the people who get on my nerves me at school. But unfortunately means 6 weeks holiday with my sister. As you may or may not know I am going to Bulgaria (where I am originally from) for 6 weeks to stay with different relatives. But unlike most years instead of taking a plane, my family are driving from the IOM to Bulgaria passing through France, Italy and Greece. Although this is possible in 2 days we are going to take a week as we will stop to see sights.

But do not worry! I am not abandoning my blog. Where possible I will update daily (of my ipod touch) but if there is no wi-fi available there will be a set of scheduled post every 1 or 2 days to keep you entertained. But this is only for a week as when I arrive I will have access everyday to the Internet.
